Since our last blog about the Cancun Underwater Museum many exciting things have happened. This year has seen the submersion of more sculptures created by 5 artists from 3 different countries. A life size 8 ton cement replica of the classic Volkswagon beetle. The sculpture is designed specifically to house marine life whilst exploring the significant impact humans have had on our planets ecosystems and the subsequent affects to future generations. The VW beetle or “votcho” as it is known in Mexico is an iconic symbol and the classic shape was still in production until March 2003. Its rounded aerodynamic shape makes it perfectly suited to maintain stability underwater from strong currents and tropical storms. La escultura está diseñada específicamente para albergar la vida marina y explorar el impacto de los seres humanos en nuestros ecosistemas y la afecta a las generaciones futuras. El VW o “votcho” como se le conoce en México es un símbolo icónico y la forma clásica se encontraba todavía en la producción hasta marzo de 2003.
