Today, 6th January, Mexico celebrates ‘el día de reyes’ – the day of the kings. The celebration commemorates the arrival of the three kings or three wise men. Tradition dictates that children in Mexico leave their shoes outside filled with hay or dried grass for the wise men’s camels – similar to the idea of santa stockings and a carrot for Rudolph! The next morning they receive a gift from the reyes (and the Christmas decorations can come down too)! Hoy 06 de enero México celebra el día de los reyes. A rosca is an oval shaped bread which is covered with dried fruits, cherries and figs. When the rosca is cut the lucky receiver will find a trinket inside their slice.
